Greener UK is a group of 13 major environmental organisations, with a combined public membership of 7.9 million. The coalition was launched in December 2016, united in the belief that leaving the EU is a pivotal moment to restore and enhance the UK’s environment.
Green Alliance is a member of Greener UK and hosts the Greener UK unit, which coordinates the coalition, leading on strategy development and delivery on behalf of the Greener UK board. The board is chaired by the director of Green Alliance.
The Greener UK coalition has called on MPs of all parties to sign a ‘Pledge for the Environment’. Signatories committed to do everything in their power to ensure the UK is a world leader on environmental protection and climate change and has a countryside richer in nature.
Greener UK launched its manifesto at a parliamentary reception in February 2017, calling on the UK government to take eight actions in order to make a greener UK a reality. Ahead of the election, the coalition held hustings, in association with CAFOD and Christian Aid, where the major parties were questioned on their environment plans. Watch the event video.
On the anniversary of the EU referendum, Greener UK published a Risk tracker, which is monitoring which environmental policy areas are more secure, and most at risk through the Brexit process. This has been updated to reflect the changes in risk between June and September 2017.
